Dezeen showroom: Crystal Shell Pendant is a clam-shaped pendant from the New York studio Shakúff's suspended lighting series.
Shakúff’s crystal shell pendant is “reminiscent of clams” and is inspired by the carapace of marine life found in the sand.
Shakúff said: "This series is very personal, inspired by the childhood of founder Joseph Sidof, who foraged on the beaches of northern Israel to create treasures." "This collection of natural materials continues to inspire every series of Shakúff. "
The design is made of leftover heat-resistant glass, pressed into a ball, and then blown into a cymbal shape.
This process causes the cracked surface on the glass disc and waves around the edges.
"Reminiscent of clams, the crystal shell pendant contains a treasure of pearl glass residues, and the top is fixed by a screw and suspended by a coaxial cable," Shakoff said.
Pendants can be hung together in a variety of configurations from one fixture and at different heights to create unique arrangements.
