Made almost entirely of bamboo and only three components (shade panels, bamboo frame, and cord set), the Moso Pendant can be flat packed and shipped to your preferred destination and be assembled without the use of any fasteners or glue. How cool is that?
We’ve been a fan a Brian Schmitt’s sophisticated eco-design work for years, ever since we discovered his Adrift Mobiles back in 2005. Both a designer and a builder, Brian incorporates sustainability in his design and practice, offsetting 100% of the electricity he uses in his office and shop through the purchase of renewable energy certificates. His commitment is shown through an ongoing process to improve the sustainable aspects of his designs. Along with the cord set, the shade panels are the exception to the use of bamboo friendly materials in the Moso Pendant, made of a styrene liner with bamboo veneer finished with a mixture of low V.O.C. linseed and tungsten oils. Brian is seeking out a more suitable paper alternative as this post is written.
Even thought production details are still being finalized, Brian hopes to bring the Moso Pendant to market later this summer. The only question that remains is, “Which do you prefer, the beauty of the end or vertical grain veneer?” We’re still having a hard time deciding.
