For MRC's client Mike Mahan and his wife Brooke, the designer chose a "feeling cold" specification house and transformed it with his iconic style, with rich and resonant colors.

Los Angeles interior designer Jake Arnold (Jake Arnold) recalled the first time he saw the 13,558-square-foot house, it was built to specifications. "Everything feels cold," said Arnold, who is known for his iconic style, with rich, resonant tones and bespoke furniture designs.

His clients-Mike Mahan, Vice Chairman of MRC Live & Alternative and his wife Brooke, co-founder of YouTube channel WhatsUpMoms and card games, do you know me? --agree.

"We placed a very high requirement on the team-'Remove the norms from it,'" Brooke Mahan said. "This house is so novel, we want to give it personality and warmth." (MRC is the co-owner of PMRC, a joint venture established by THR with Penske Media.)

Mike Mahan added, "We met Jake through a friend's introduction and were immediately attracted by his style. We knew he would create something cool and unique, but also warm and livable."

The couple bought a house in Brentwood Park in Los Angeles in 2018. But the introduction of Arnold and his interior design company during the 2020 pandemic affected the scope of the redesign.

Arnold pointed out that usually in his projects, "we will do everything." But instead of destroying the interior decoration, he works within the existing frame of the house and focuses on updating selected details, including fireplaces and kitchens. Countertops and hardware.

"I rarely keep the kitchen," said Arnold, who applied Farrow & Ball's London stone to the cabinets to soften the bright white space. "But there are too many cabinets in this house and I have to do it. It's almost like a domino effect; if you change cabinets and floors in a room, everything has to come out." Arnold's celebrity clients include John Legend With Chrissy Teigen, Aaron Paul, Whitney Cummings, Dan Levy and Rashida Jones, he is also the co-founder of the online design consulting platform The Expert.

Throughout the house, high-color paint washes away the intimacy in the spacious room. "The light in the house is very good, and they have seen many of my dark rooms, and they have confidence in the darkness," Arnold said. Retro pieces—including lamps by Charlotte Perriand, chairs by Milo Baughman, lamps by Ralph Pucci and Allied Maker—and custom designs by bold art partners and Arnold, from dining chairs to a sexy cluster in the master bedroom Velvet bed. Brooke Mahan said: "I like this house so beautiful but not precious." "We use every room."

Details include a floor lamp from Orange Furniture; a mobile chandelier 1 by Michael Anastassiades ($20,075, thefutureperfect.com); a molten candle holder by Allied Maker; a cubist coffee table by Orange Furniture ($5,500) and a chair by Gerrit Rietveld. Farrow & Ball's Down Pipe paint gave Mike Mahan's home office a "serious and moody" feeling, said his wife Brooke. Danielle Siggerud's Mattina table is used as a desk and is placed on the carpet of La Brea in La Brea. The two upholstered mohair chairs are old-fashioned Milo Baughman. This artwork is a work of Ammon Rost.

Jim Thompson's charcoal "Jim's Dream" wall covering was paired with Portola's Fade to Black paint on the walls of the room and was interrupted by Gallery L7 Shell brass wall lamps ($750 each). The Stilnovo “Pita” chandelier found in Galerie Half hangs above the dark dining table and custom-made chairs. La Brea Lawrence carpet; 1940s French modernist bookcase from Obsolete.

"They really want it to be comfortable and warm, but at the same time they want to be able to use the space and really make it feel more modern and simple," said Arnold of Overall Aesthetics. Bedroom details include Farrow & Ball's Down Pipe paint, custom beds and bedside tables, Woven rugs, Orange vintage chairs and 1st Dibs vintage ceiling fixtures.
