The bold but cocooning colour scheme is evocative of Mediterranean climes.

When creative director Andrea Gelardin moved into her new family home in North London she couldn't find the exact paint colour she envisaged for her sprawling kitchen – that's when she created her very own vibrant mustard yellow shade.

Working with Royal Warrant holder Mylands – Britain's oldest family-owned and run paint manufacturer – to bring her new family home to life, Andrea was strongly influenced by her Spanish and Italian heritage.

The kitchen is the brightest room in the house and a place for Andrea's family to gather, and while it serves its practical needs, it provides a wonderful mood boost too, thanks to the richly pigmented yellow hue.

Andrea – widely known within the fashion, music and entertainment industries and currently Creative Director of luxury boutique hotel Broadwick Soho – developed the bespoke yellow colour (Freegrove Mustard) in collaboration with Mylands' in-house colour experts to bring a sunshine warmth into the room.

British Standard by Plain English kitchen cabinets are painted in Andrea's Freegrove Mustard Wood & Metal Eggshell, and we simply adore the complementary neutral shades. The walls are painted in Honest John No.58, a traditional off-white with warm, stone undertones, while the ceiling is in Whitehall No.9, a pure white with a hint of ochre. Another focal point is the deep blackish-red of Rothschild Street No.296, used here on the doors to create a striking architectural feature, leading the eye towards the garden beyond.

Throughout the rest of the home, Andrea has continued the decorative influence of the Mediterranean landscape through the use of natural materials such as rattan, marble, leather, wood and stone. There's also a calm use of pastel shades and rich brown furniture and accessories, all of which bring a touch of the open air and countryside to this urban home.

The serene bedroom utilises an off-white, navy and rich brown colour scheme to create a clean backdrop, while the dark wooden antique and vintage furniture adds a chic contrast. Andrea's grandfather, the prolific Spanish architect Luis Gutierrez-Soto, is a big influence on her design choices and style, and his drawings adorn the walls of her bedroom.

We also can't get enough of the glamorous master bathroom complete with a fresh and uplifting olive green shade, sleek marble and traditional cabinetry. While for the powder room, you'll find bold patterned Cole & Son Orange Blossom wallpaper balanced perfectly with accompanying paint colours (Market Green No.38) for the panelling and radiator.

And for the guest en-suite, Andrea chose a deep blue and off-white colour scheme, with a sea blue vanity unit and dramatic, all-encompassing Crane Fonda 'Ecru Blue' wallpaper from Divine Savages.

'I wanted to retain the traditional features and spirit of the house whilst using vibrant colours and furniture to bring something new to the space. I like that it has the feel of a country house yet is situated in what feels like a multicultural very "London" neighbourhood. We get the best of both worlds in that way,' Andrea comments.
