MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio -- It will be a show, a sale and an artisan’s delight all rolled into one.

The annual GemStreet USA Show and Sale will set up shop at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, 19201 E. Bagley Road, Sept. 23-25. A variety of gems, rocks, minerals, jewelry, fossils and beads will be available to peruse and purchase.

Fine jewelers and gifted artisans from across the country will be on hand to answer questions and inspire creativity.

An intriguing crystal from Madagascar -- the Unicorn Stone -- will be featured in rough form and as towers and beaded bracelets. It is comprised of pink tourmaline, lepidolite, smoky quartz and cleavelandite, according to exhibitor Christine Daniel, co-owner of Momma’s Rocks.

GemStreet USA producer and exhibitor Gail Strieter first brought the show to the fairgrounds in 1998.

“Someone can take a rock most people would think is worth nothing, polish it, wire wrap it, make a beautiful pendant and sell it,” Strieter said.

“It’s just like with diamonds when you think about it, because a diamond is just a rock. What an artist can do with a rock is fascinating.”

She hopes the show will entice more young people to take an interest in rocks and minerals. There is a multitude of knowledge to be gained by attending, Strieter emphasized.

“There are people at the show, like certified gemologists and geologists, who have so much information,” she said. “We have dealers who have one-of-a-kind rocks, and we have an assortment of people from all over the world.”

There will be geodes, crystals and even fossilized bamboo.

“The show really is a learning experience,” Strieter said.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 23 and 24 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 25. Admission is $6, with free entry for children younger than 12. Discount coupons are available at GemStreetUSA.com.
